What are you passionate about? What do you get excited about? What do you day dream about? What are you goals?
You can learn a lot about a person from how they answer such questions, because people are passionate and excited about so many things. For me, it’s things like reading, teaching, photography, music, and art. For others, it might be things like:
- Kids.
- Sports.
- Education.
- Work.
- Fishing and Hunting.
- Entertainment.
- Travel.
- Etc.
All of these are good and acceptable pursuits, but after reading Numbers chapter 25, I realize that my life is too weak when it comes to being passionate about God. In this chapter, you read about a priest named Phinehas who was so passionate for God’s honor that he turned the people back to God, saving their lives. Twice in the chapter, Phinehas is praised for being zealous for God’s honor. (Numbers 25:11,13)
It’s a safe bet that I’m not as passionate and intentional in promoting and defending God’s honor as I could or should be. Sadly, it’s so easy to get more focused and excited about the lesser things in front of me than the Almighty God who’s over me. Perhaps my life would be less anemic and more dynamic if promoting and defending God’s honor and glory were more the driving theme of my life.
For Phinehas, being passionate about God took him from doing nothing to making a difference and saving his people. I wonder where bing more passionate about God would take me…and you.
