Choice. It’s both wonderful and scary. Choice is always there and always available. From the dawn of creation until this very moment, choice has been the canvas on which life is painted. Choice is both the common denominator and the wild card of life.
It’s amazing that God would entrust us with the privilege, power, possibility, and unpredictability of choice. The fact that the God of order would allow us to choose speaks volumes about both His extensive power and love.
In Deuteronomy chapter 30, the Children of Israel stand on the brink of grasping what God had been promising them for the last 400+ years. And it’s at this very moment that God says, “I’m giving you a choice. (Deuteronomy 30:15,19) And it was a choice that was to be an on-going choice. (Deuteronomy 30:1-5)
Our choices are the rudder that steers us toward the things…or away from them. But before we stress out over the weightiness and pressure of feeling we must get every choice right everytime, remember the following…
- God gives us all the data we need to make our decisions. God spent Deuteronomy 28-29 giving His people all the commandments and information they needed. God will provide everything we need to make the choices we need to make. (2 Peter 1:3)
- Even if we’ve chosen poorly, God allows us to choose differently (Deuteronomy 30:2) (Zechariah 1:3) It’s never too late to choose differently.
The success and health of our life and relationship with God and others depends upon our ability to choose.
Think of how other areas of life are dependent on making good choices, in relationship to God, and to others. (Matthew 22:37-40)
May God teach us the importance and impact of each decision we make. May He help us to choose life in our relationships with Him and others. Choice!
